Is there a common expiry date for the OSOT Professional Liability Insurance coverage?
Yes. All members renew each year on October 1st. Professional Liability Insurance is a claims made policy which requires that an individual have an active policy at the time a claim is made. Ensure that you are protected! Keep your insurance policy active at all times – it’ is unpredictable when a complaint or legal suit may be brought against you!
Who handles the administration of the insurance program?
OSOT handles all registration in the Professional Liability Insurance Program and can be reached directly at 416-322-3011 or toll free by calling 1-877-676-6768. Annual renewal of your insurance policy is completed at the time of OSOT membership renewal. LMS PROLINK handles registration in Business Property Plans as these have individualized components to the coverage and pricing. What coverage do you suggest if I am self-employed?
Self employed occupational therapists are required to be covered by a COTO approved Professional Liability Insurance Plan. OSOT’s comprehensive program meets the College requirements. In addition, independent practitioners should consider the following:
- Commercial General Liability Coverage – Protects you in the case of accidental damages that are not a result of professional activity. For example, you accidentally damage a stone wall while backing out of a client’s driveway; or for instance if a client slips and hurts themselves on the icy steps outside your clinic.
- Corporation Coverage – To insure your personal corporation.
- Business Property Insurance – If you have a clinic or office that is excluded from your home insurance coverage.
Who handles administration of the OSOT Group Insurance Programs?
LMS PROLINK handles all registration in OSOT Group Benefit Plan (life, health, disability, dental, assistance plan). What if I require a Third Party certificate of Insurance ?
If a member needs a Third Party certificate please send the request in writing (with a copy of your formal certificate of insurance from OSOT) to LMS PROLINK with attention to the OSOT Account Manager by emailing [email protected] or you can fax the request over to 416-595-1649.
